Terms of use
In short: Debaterr is a speaking-practice app. Treat others with respect, don't choose offensive nicknames or group names, don't cheat or get around the limits. The grade helps you practise but is not an official exam grade.
1. Who we are
Debaterr is made by Atvars Grasmanis (Latvia). Contact: debaterr.app@gmail.com.
2. The service
Debaterr lets you practise improvised speaking: you get a topic, you speak, and the app recognises your speech, marks filler words, foreign words and language mistakes, and calculates a score. The app is in a test (beta) version and is free for now. We may change, extend or stop it. Speaking time is limited (currently 7 minutes a day).
3. Account
- Debaterr is only for people aged 13 or older. If you are under 13, you can't create an account.
- You are responsible for what happens in your account. Don't give your sign-in codes to others.
- You can delete your account at any time: Settings → Delete account, or see account deletion.
4. What you must not do
- Choose a nickname or group name that is offensive, hateful, rude, pretends to be someone else or contains personal data.
- Cheat on the leaderboard, for example by submitting fake results or texts you didn't speak yourself.
- Get around the daily limit, use automated tools, overload or try to break into the service.
- Use Debaterr to harass others or break the law.
If these terms are broken, we may change a nickname, delete a group or results, or suspend or delete an account.
5. Reporting and blocking
- If you see an offensive nickname or group name, report it in the app: Leaderboard → tap the nickname, or Groups → Report. Reports are anonymous: the other user won't know who reported.
- You can block a user you don't want to see: Leaderboard → tap the nickname → Block. They will no longer appear on your leaderboards. You can unblock them in settings.
- You can report other illegal content or behaviour to debaterr.app@gmail.com. Say what is visible, where, and why it is unacceptable.
- Reports are reviewed by a person, usually within 7 days. If content breaks these terms or the law, we delete or change it and explain the reason to the user whose content was changed.
- If you disagree with our decision (as the reporter or as the user whose content was changed), write to the same address and we will review the decision again.
- This address is also the single point of contact for authorities and users under the EU Digital Services Act (Regulation (EU) 2022/2065). Languages: Latvian and English.
6. Grading
Scores are calculated automatically: speech recognition and artificial intelligence can make mistakes. The grade is meant for practice and is not an official school or exam grade.
7. Your content
Your speech text is stored on your phone. We send it to the server only briefly to calculate the score and don't store it (see the privacy policy). The nickname and group names you choose are visible to other users.
8. Liability
Debaterr is provided as it is, without a guarantee that it will always work without errors. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses caused by using the app. These terms don't limit your consumer rights under Latvian and EU law or the law of your country.
9. App Store and Google Play
If you download Debaterr from the App Store or Google Play, those stores' terms also apply. These terms are between you and Debaterr's creator, not Apple or Google; Apple and Google are not responsible for Debaterr, its content, maintenance or support. If paid features are added in the future, payments will be processed by Apple or Google, and the store's rules on refunds and cancelling subscriptions will apply.
10. Changes and governing law
If these terms change, we will update the date at the top of this page and tell you about important changes in the app. These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Latvia. If the English and Latvian versions differ, the Latvian version prevails.
